Emily Ratajkowski Forced To Apologise After Insulting And Insensitive Instagram Post

Emily Ratajkowski is without a doubt one of the most beautiful women on the planet. Her flawless features and jaw-dropping physique have seen her become one of the most sought-after models in the business, after she shot to fame after appearing nude in the music video for Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’.

Amazingly, she’s turned out more famous than him. It’s funny how the world works sometimes… However, with so many eyes watching her every move and social media posts, it was only a matter of time before Ratajkowski became the latest celebrity to say something stupid and get called out on it.

For just two days, Ratajkowski had been the face (or rather, the hair) of Kérastase. It was an understandable move for the luxury haircare brand to name the supermodel as their new endorser, after all, she is wildly famous, gorgeous and has great hair.

But in a recent attempt to promote the company on her Instagram account, Ratajkowski came under fire from users after suggesting stating how hair is an essential part of a woman’s beauty. In a misjudged caption to an image she posted on Monday, Ratajkowski shared a sultry shot from her new campaign with Kérastase, she said:

“Hair is a fundamental part of beauty, femininity, and identity. So excited to announce that I am the new face of @kerastase_official!” The message did not go down well with Instagram users, and if you can’t immediately recognize what is wrong with the statement, then let me welcome you to 2018. We’re currently living in a time that is constantly revolutionizing beauty standards in society. Beauty is no longer defined as skinny, long-legged blonde white models who strut down the catwalk. Thanks to many people on social media, beauty is now recognized in people of all shapes, colors, genders and sizes.

It’s the #BodyPos (body positivity) movement, and I personally believe it is a fantastic message for everyone – especially for the young users of social media, who are being taught that everyone is beautiful. This includes people, especially women, without hair. For whatever reason, be it illness or lifestyle choice, many women do not have long luscious locks, and as a result, many people found Ratajkowski’s comments insulting.

One user was quick to comment:

“Hair is not a ‘fundamental’ part of beauty. There are people with cancer and other illnesses who are unfortunately undergoing treatment that causes them to lose their hair. Saying that hair is a ‘fundamental’ part of beauty is extremely shallow and it gives off the false idea that hair is a necessity.”

Whilst another angrily typed: “Where’s the apology????”

Noticing her error, Ratajkowksi quickly went into damage-control mode, updating her Instagram caption to something more palatable to her follower:

“So excited to announce that I am the new face of @kerastase_official ! Welcome good hair days! Shot by @inezandvinoodh #Kerastase#KerastaseClub #sponsored”

Similarly, Kérastase also took to Instagram to “cover their tracks”, as they also posted an image with the following caption:

“‘Everyone is uniquely beautiful in their own way’ — We share this vision with Emily Ratajkowski and we’re happy to welcome @emrata to our #Kerastase family. #KerastaseClub.”

Let’s hope Emily is a little more thoughtful when it comes to her social media posts in the future. After all, we can’t all be as stereotypically beautiful as her…
