As many of us get older and less mobile, we may find it harder to take care of ourselves and our surroundings, including our homes.
It’s one of the many reasons why it’s so important to care for and keep an eye on our elders living alone.
So when Chris Keckler, a cop, stumbled upon WWII veteran Charles Rogers while responding to an emergency situation at the elderly man’s home, he couldn’t help but offer a helping hand to the vet in need.
Charles’ situation was appalling: the trailer was in a deplorable condition, with trash and magazines stacked all over the place. There was only one corner where he could sit, with barely enough room for him to move around. It was lucky that Chris showed up when he did.
The cop ended up developing a very close friendship with the veteran, whom he now considers to be an uncle of sorts. He accompanies him tothe hospital, and now the elderly man is making incredible progress. For instance, he can now stand up on his own!
Charles, who has no immediate family, has someone to keep him company for as long as he needs. And with his son away at school, Chris can spend his free time with his new friend!
