Stacey Dash Is Running For Congress In California But She Isn’t The First Celeb To Pivot Into Politics!

If you think politicians are clueless now, you've yet to imagine a future with Congressional Representative Stacey Dash.

That's right! The Clueless actress and former Fox News commentator filed paperwork on Monday to run for Congress in California's 44th district, which is currently repped by Democrat Nanette Barragan.

The 51-year-old has not issued a public statement yet, but has been teasing a potential run on Twitter. Earlier this month, she shared:

Weeks later, the outspoken Republican tweeted "things are taking shape" before sending a vague (and mildly terrifying) message to her followers: "Soon."

Scary, we know. But if she somehow takes the district, Dash won't be first celeb to make the dash from showbiz to politics…

The 2018 Winter Olympics have arrived and the spotlight isn't only on the athletes.

The professional figured skaters showed up looking like announcers for The Hunger Games and Twitter was shook.

The two got their hair did and busted out their best maroon sequins numbers for the big night. It was straight up Caesar Flickerman and Effie Trinket in that arena.

Here are all of the release dates for Disney’s live-action remakes

The old adage of what’s old is new again rings truer than ever these days, and that’s most evident with Disney‘s live-action remakes.

For the last few years, Disney has been rolling out remakes, sequels, and spinoffs of some of its most beloved animated films. Alice in Wonderland’s release in 2010 was popular enough to lead to Alice Through the Looking Glass,Maleficent (a live-action Sleeping Beauty film from Maleficent’s point of view), and remakes of Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and Beauty and the Beast. As you might expect, there are lots more on the way.

These films are often under a microscope, as critics wonder if remaking the classics is even necessary. Some, especially 2017’s Beauty and the Beast, were critiqued for being too faithful to the originals. But despite that skepticism, the Disney live-action remakes have been incredibly successful. Beauty and the Beast was the second highest-grossing film of 2017, just behind The Last Jedi. Cinderella and Maleficent broke the top 10 in their respective years. The Jungle Book was the fifth highest-grossing film of 2016—and it won an Oscar for visual effects.

In the next few years, Disney is diving deep into its archives for more. Some of the films have release dates and productions teams, while others are still in the early planning phases. If these films continue their strong run, however, it’s likely Disney will keep (re)making its catalog long into the future.

Disney live-action remakes release schedule

1) Christopher Robin | Aug. 3, 2018

Disney/YouTube

Not to be confused with the 2017 biographical film Goodbye Christopher Robin, Christopher Robin is a reimagining of Winnie the Pooh films. The classic films often centered on a young Christopher Robin and his animal friends in the Hundred Acre Wood, but this time Christopher Robin has grown up, prompting his old friends to help him regain his imagination.

Ewan McGregor stars as an adult Christopher Robin, and Agent Carter’s Hayley Atwell (who also appeared in Cinderella) plays Christopher Robin’s wife, Evelyn. The film will also feature voice actors Jim Cummings, who has voiced Winnie the Pooh for nearly 30 years, and Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond, Finding Nemo). Marc Forster (Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland) will direct.

2) Mary Poppins Returns | Dec. 24, 2018

Disney | ABC Television Group/Flickr (CC-BY-ND)

After 54 years, Mary Poppins is back to help the Banks family once again. The sequel takes place around 25 years after the first film, and Mary will aid a grownup Michael Banks and his three children “after Michael has a personal loss.”

Directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago, Into the Woods), an all-star cast is bringing back the woman who’s “practically perfect in every way.” Emily Blunt will star as Mary Poppins herself with Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton) as a lamplighter and Bert’s apprentice. Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, and Angela Lansbury will also star in the film. While Julie Andrews won’t make an appearance, original cast member Dick Van Dyke will have a cameo in the film.

3) Dumbo | March 29, 2019

Lilithus/YouTube

Tim Burton will helm the Dumbo remake, which is loosely based on the original 1941 version of the film. This version will have more of a human element, as a former circus star and war veteran is tasked with taking care of a newborn elephant. Like the animated version, the elephant is mocked for the size of his ears until the humans around him find out that he can fly.

Colin Farrell, Eva Green, Michael Keaton, and Danny DeVito are set to star.

4) Aladdin: May 24, 2019

Disney/Twitter

With Guy Ritchie (Snatch, Sherlock Holmes) at the helm, the live-action version of Aladdin will be an adaptation of the 1992 animated classic. After thousands auditioned for roles in the film, Mena Massoud will play Aladdin, Naomi Scott will play Jasmine, and Marwan Kenzari will play Jafar. Rounding out the quartet is Will Smith, who will voice the Genie.

The Aladdin film has been among the most controversial of Disney’s remake lineup. Fans have long-standing fears that Disney would whitewash Aladdin after reports it couldn’t find an actor to play Aladdin. Those fears were realized when Disney admitted it “browned up” a handful of extras for crowd scenes. Reports that Ritchie invented a new character so he could cast a white man in the role didn’t sit well with fans either.

5) The Lion King | July 19, 2019

Disney/Twitter

The Lion King remake is technically more of an animated remake than a live-action one (although it will almost certainly be categorized as the latter). If you want a preview of how that’ll turn out, look to The Jungle Book’s realistic, digitally animated animals voiced by humans. With Jungle Book director Jon Favreau helming the project, it’ll be in good hands.

What’s even more impressive about this film is the caliber of its cast. For the first time in one of Disney’s remakes, a film will see one of the original actors reprise his role: James Earl Jones will once again break our hearts as Mufasa. The rest of the cast includes Donald Glover, Beyoncé, John Oliver, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, John Kani, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Keegan-Michael Key, and Eric André, giving this Shakespearean affair all the star power it needs.

6) Mulan | Dec. 20, 2019

Disney/Twitter

Like with Aladdin, Mulan fans have harbored worries over what Disney could mess up when adapting the film to live-action. Whitewashing fears have existed almost since the beginning—especially since fans still see Asian characters being played by white actors in major motion pictures—with concern rising over a spec script where Mulan’s love interest would be a newly created white man. (Disney has since said it was rewriting that script and that a Chinese man would play the romantic lead.)

Niki Caro (Whale Rider, The Zookeeper’s Wife) is set to direct with Chinese actress Liu Yifei (who’s also known as Crystal Liu) starring as Mulan.

Disney live-action remakes with no release date

Several other sequels and Disney live-action are in the works with no release dates attached to them. Some of them have cast stars while others have only a director. Some are unlikely to appear anytime soon—if ever. We’ve included them below in alphabetical order for posterity.

1) Captain Nemo

Hollywood has been trying to remake Disney’s 1954 film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea for years without any luck. Now James Mangold (Logan) has been tapped to direct the latest attempt at a remake, titled Captain Nemo after the novel’s famous and mysterious captain.

2) Cruella

Although two live-action films based on the animated classic 101 Dalmatians already exist, Cruella is being framed—in a similar vein to Maleficent—as an origin story for Cruella de Vil. Emma Stone will play the titular character with Mozart in the Jungle co-creator Alex Timbers set to direct. No other cast members have been announced, but the film will reportedly go into production later this year and take place during the late ’70s.

3) Genies

Although Disney is already filming a live-action remake of Aladdin, it also planned to make a prequel that would reveal how the Genie ended up in his lamp.

4) James and the Giant Peach

Walt Disney Pictures produced the 1996 stop-motion animation film based on Roald Dahl’s classic book. And although the original version had some elements of live-action, a remake was revealed in 2016 with Sam Mendes (Skyfall) attached to direct. Mendes later dropped out to direct Disney’s live-action adaptation of Pinocchio. (He has since left that project as well.)

5) The Jungle Book 2

Disney announced a Jungle Book sequel before the first movie was released with Favreau returning as director. Although Favreau had planned to work on both the Jungle Book sequel and The Lion King, the project has been pushed back so that Favreau can fully focus on The Lion King first.

6) The Little Mermaid

Disney’s remake of The Little Mermaid is just one of three movies in the works in recent years. This version doesn’t have a cast yet but Marshall—who directed Mary Poppins Returns—is the top choice as director and Lin Manuel Miranda has signed on to write lyrics for the movie. The original film’s composer, Alan Menken, will also work on the film.

7) Maleficent 2

Angelina Jolie, who played Maleficent in the 2014 film, confirmed in September 2017 that she would return to film a sequel and that “we have been working on the script.” Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) will direct with the sequel that’s reportedly starting production in spring 2018.

8) Peter Pan

Peter Pan has been brought to life in multiple adaptations over the decades, but the 1953 animated version remains the most famous. The Disney remake was first announced in 2016 with Pete’s Dragon director David Lowery directing and working on a script. Lowery told Den of Geek in a recent interview that “a draft-and-a-half” had been written for a Peter Pan movie. While he has mentioned the 2018 and 2019 in regards to his film, there’s been no confirmed release date or start of production.

9) Pinocchio

The live-action remake of the 1940 film Pinocchio was announced in 2015, but lost Sam Mendes, who first became attached to the project in May 2017.

10) Snow White and Rose Red

Disney announced a live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 2016 with Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl on the Train) set to write the script. A second and unrelated Snow White live-action movie focusing on Snow White’s sister Rose Red—who appears in the original Grimm Brothers story—was also revealed in 2016.

11) The Sword in the Stone

Disney announced in 2015 that Game of Thrones writer Bryan Cogman would write the script for a live-action remake of the 1963 film. It featured King Arthur as a young boy who ends up under the tutelage of the wizard Merlin and eventually removes a sword that reveals him to be the rightful king of England.

12) Tink

Reese Witherspoon was revealed to be playing Tinker Bell in a live-action movie starring the famous fairy from Peter Pan in 2015. Early imaginings of the film compared it to Maleficent in the sense that it would tell “the story you don’t know” about Tinker Bell.

Smith & Wesson Made the Assault Rifle Used in Florida School Massacre

The semi-automatic AR-15 assault rifle used in the Parkland, Florida school shooting Wednesday was manufactured by American Outdoor Brands Corp., according to Jonathon Fishman of the Broward County Sheriff’s Department.

The company was formerly known as Smith & Wesson Corp. Seventeen people were killed and 14 injured in the attack.

Gunmakers have faced litigation in the past when their weapons were used in mass shootings. Survivors of those killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut sued the manufacturer of the rifle used in that instance, a Bushmaster AR-15. The suit was dismissed because a judge ruled the manufacturer was protected by the federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which prevents firearms companies from being held liable for crimes committed with their products. The plaintiffs attempted to revive the suit last fall.

American Outdoor Brands saw stocks jump 4.3 percent in early trading on Thursday morning, as is common during a mass shooting, but was up only 1.6 percent by the afternoon. Smith & Wesson also manufactured a firearm owned by the gunman who attacked a Colorado movie theater in 2012.

American Outdoor Brands didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment on the matter made after regular business hours.

J.K. Rowling responds to gay Dumbledore controversy

(CNN)Here's a sign of how far the world has come: Some fans are upset that "Fantastic Beasts 2" is not going to let Dumbledore be openly gay.

The controversy began after the film's director, David Yates, told Entertainment Weekly the sexuality of the character Albus Dumbledore would not be "explicitly" explored in the forthcoming sequel, "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald."
"But I think all the fans are aware of that," Yates said. "He had a very intense relationship with Grindelwald when they were young men. They fell in love with each other's ideas, and ideology and each other."
That view didn't sit well with some fans, who tweeted their thoughts about it.
"IT'S 2018 LMAO GET IT TOGETHER," one person tweeted.
Dumbledore is younger in the sequel than he is in the Harry Potter books. "Fantastic Beasts" tells the story of Newt Scamander, the fictional author of the book "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" who is mentioned in the Potter series.
Jude Law portrays the younger Dumbledore.
"Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling revealed in 2007 that the Hogwarts School headmaster was gay after the release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," the final book in the boy wizard series.
In 2015, she defended what she said after a fan tweeted her, asking, "I wonder why you said that Dumbledore is gay because I can't see him in that way."
Rowling tweeted back: "Maybe because gay people just look like... people?"
She's also responding to the current complaints.
On Wednesday, she posted a tweet that included a GIF of rapper Lil Yachty pressing the mute button.
"Being sent abuse about an interview that didn't involve me, about a screenplay I wrote but which none of the angry people have read, which is part of a five-movie series that's only one instalment in, is obviously tons of fun, but you know what's even *more* fun," she wrote.
"Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald" is scheduled for release in November.

20+ Times People Had Genius Ideas That Are So Crazy They Might Actually Work

Kelly Was Alerted on Porters Past, Sources Say

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly knew that President Donald Trump’s staff secretary had issues in his past possibly impeding a permanent security clearance before news reports this week on domestic violence allegations against the aide, people familiar with the matter said.

A deputy chief of staff, Joe Hagin, was concerned that Rob Porter hadn’t yet passed a background check more than a year into his tenure and briefed his boss, Kelly, the people said. Porter continued in his high-level job while his bosses waited for the conclusion of the staff secretary’s security clearance investigation, the people said.

Kelly and Hagin didn’t know the specific allegations against the staff secretary, the people said. Kelly asked Hagin a few weeks ago to dig deeper into why there had been delays in background checks of certain key staff, including Porter. Meanwhile, the Porter that Kelly and other top staff saw every day at the White House was excellent at his job and cordial to his colleagues.

“Kelly became fully aware about these allegations yesterday,” Deputy White House Press Secretary Raj Shah told reporters at the White House on Thursday. “I’m not going to get into specifics about who may have known what pieces of information.”

The episode is another staffing embarrassment for Trump and may threaten Kelly’s standing in the White House. Several aides and White House advisers expressed disgust and said Kelly had failed the president if he knew about Porter’s history with his ex-wives and didn’t inform Trump.

After issuing a complimentary statement on Porter earlier on Wednesday, Kelly said in the evening that he “was shocked by the new allegations released today. There is no place for domestic violence in our society.”

Trump didn’t know about Porter’s history with the two ex-wives before Tuesday, when the DailyMail.com approached the White House with details of an interview with one of the women, two White House officials said.

“He was saddened for all of the individuals involved,” Shah said.

Porter announced on Wednesday he would resign but without leaving the White House immediately. Realization about the seriousness of the abuse allegations grew within the White House after The Intercept published an interview with a second ex-wife and a photo of what she said was a black eye inflicted by Porter.

He denied both of the ex-wives’ allegations. His last day at the White House is now today.

“The allegations against Rob Porter are serious and deeply troubling,” Shah said. “He did deny them. The incidents took place long before he joined the White House.”

Porter’s title understates his significance in the White House. He served as a clearinghouse for paperwork coming in or out of the Oval Office, and he was an important influence on policy in his own right. Few aides enjoyed greater access to the Oval Office, or spent more time in the president’s company. He also played a vital role in helping Kelly try to bring order to the White House.

Trump didn’t mention Porter when he gathered with lawmakers, members of the military and former Vice President Dick Cheney at the White House on Tuesday evening to watch the movie “12 Strong.” Porter’s situation wasn’t discussed in the White House’s senior staff meeting on Wednesday led by chief of staff John Kelly, but it was addressed in smaller groups, aides said.

      Security Clearance

Allegations of domestic violence can be grounds for the government to deny security clearances to aspiring officials. Yet Porter had sat in on meetings of the National Security Council where top secret matters were discussed, according to three people familiar with the situation. Someone in his position would have had an interim clearance while the FBI conducted a background check, according to one official.

Senior staff at the White House apply for five-year clearances, and the process can be lengthy -- some current officials are still waiting, aides said. Porter never received a permanent clearance and his background investigation was ongoing when he resigned, Shah said.

“The fact that Porter might have held a senior White House position without a security clearance is troubling and merits a full investigation,” said Chris Lu, former cabinet secretary under President Barack Obama and senior fellow at the University of Virginia Miller Center. “I’ve lost count as to how many Trump appointees have been sidelined because of their past views or conduct. But this is further evidence of a non-existent vetting process.”

Given the allegations made by his former wives, who The Intercept said were both interviewed by the FBI as part of Porter’s background check, some White House aides said they too were disturbed that he had access to top secret information.

All of the officials interviewed for this story requested anonymity to discuss a personnel and national security matter.

      Top Secret SCI

A president’s staff secretary typically would be cleared at a level of security called Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information, allowing the aide to handle extremely sensitive information, according to a former White House official with knowledge of the process. The secretary would have access to two computer systems, one classified and the other unclassified, the former official said.

Staff secretaries are also typically privy to information in the classified President’s Daily Briefing, a summary of intelligence on threats to the U.S., the former official said.

Porter’s ex-wife, Jennifer Willoughby, told the DailyMail.com -- the U.S. website of a U.K. tabloid -- that he had difficulty controlling his anger and at one point pulled her out of the shower and yelled at her. She took out the protective order against him in after he allegedly violated a separation agreement and punched through glass in the door of their home, cutting himself. The website published a copy of the order.

Porter’s other ex-wife, Colbie Holderness, provided a brief statement to DailyMail.com alleging Porter had abused her, but the website didn’t detail her claims. The Intercept published its interview with Holderness on Wednesday.

Some White House aides were particularly disturbed by the photo The Intercept published of Holderness with a black eye. She told the publication Porter punched her while they were on vacation.

Porter called the allegations “outrageous” and “simply false.” In a statement, he said he had taken the pictures that Holderness provided to The Intercept and that “the reality behind them is nowhere close to what is being described.”

“I have always put duty to country first and treated others with respect,” Porter said in a statement. “I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have served in the Trump administration and will seek to ensure a smooth transition when I leave the White House.”

Holderness did not respond to attempts to contact her by telephone and email.

      Kelly Statement

Kelly’s first statement on Porter complimented him without mentioning the allegations.

“Rob Porter is a man of true integrity and honor and I can’t say enough good things about him,” Kelly said. “He is a friend, a confidante and a trusted professional. I am proud to serve alongside him.”

Several White House aides said Wednesday that Kelly’s statement was a mistake. But Kelly has leaned heavily on Porter since becoming chief of staff in July, and considers the staff secretary to be a close and trusted confidante, they said.

The Daily Mail has recently delved into Porter’s personal life, reporting last week -- complete with paparazzi-style photos -- that he was in a romantic relationship with another of Trump’s most senior aides, White House Communications Director Hope Hicks.

Kelly assigned Porter to help bring more discipline to the West Wing by ensuring that no staff memos, policy documents, correspondence or news articles reached Trump’s desk without careful inspection. He almost always accompanied the president when he traveled, and frequently could be seen near Trump as he boarded Marine One and Air Force One.

He was one of a handful of aides who helped to write the president’s first State of the Union address. As an assistant to the president, Porter was paid the top White House staff salary of $179,000.

6 Bizarre Things Love Does To Your Brain And Body

Love may not be a drug, but it can certainly feel like one.

Being in love floods our brains with chemicals that can induce feelings of everything from pleasure to intense focus and attachment.

But being in love isn't all in our heads: these chemicals can cause reactions throughout the body, which might help explain that tingly-all-over feeling we get when we see a loved one, or the "high" we feel after we've met that special someone.

Take a look at how love affects our brains and bodies:

Being swept up in the initial stages of a loving relationship can make you feel euphoric, and there's good reason for it. Research has shown a link between strong feelings of love and increased levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine in the brain, which tells us rewards are ahead. The same chemical gets released in response to other sources of pleasure too, which explains the "high" feeling new lovers often experience.

Just seeing images of a loved one may help mask feelings of pain. A small recent study found that when people were touched with a hot probe, their pain decreased more when they were shown photos of loved ones than it did when they were simply distracted by being asked to do another task.

Pairs of unacquainted, opposite-sex undergrads spent two minutes at each of the following tasks for a recent study: 1. Gazing at their partner's eyes, 2. Gazing at their partner's hands 3. Counting how many times their partner blinked. When both pairs locked eyes, they were far more likely to report feelings of affection than when they were doing any other task.

The quick release of adrenaline we experience when we see the object of our affection can also make us blush. This hormone can make our blood vessels dilate, improving the flow of blood and oxygen throughout the body but also (unfortunately) turning our faces a telltale pink.

Married people who took part in one large study were significantly less likely than singles to have heart attacks, regardless of their age. Love alone, of course, may not have been the protective variable at work here: Married people are also significantly less likely than singles to smoke, and perhaps less likely to engage in other unhealthy habits as well.

Feelings of lust flood our bodies with the hormones adrenaline and norepinephrine, which can make our hearts race, our palms sweat, and our heads spin. A recent study lends some practical credence to this — when more than 700 people were asked to color in the parts of a body where they felt activity when they saw images and words linked with love, most people colored the entire body, especially the chest, stomach, and head.
